North Quad features a unique variety of “common spaces” intended to integrate academic and residential life more fully and imaginatively. These public spaces encourage hands-on experimentation with new technology, facilitate collaborative educational activity outside of the classroom, and promote awareness of the larger global perspective.
Space 2435:

Space 2435 is a collaboratively programmed space intended to showcase a rich variety of content, such as student and faculty produced work, film screenings, interdisciplinary workshops, international news and documentaries, and collaborative art events. The space features innovative technology that invites users to interact with media and technology in new ways. The modular nature of the furniture offers a flexible environment where unique set-ups can be tailored to each event. Moveable whiteboard walls and tables offer multiple surfaces for visual conversations and creative sketches to take place.
Space 2435 has many features that make it a unique place on campus. These features include:
- Flexible furniture and set-up possibilities
- White-board tables and two large moveable whiteboard walls
- 6 high-definition LCD monitors along the East wall
- 2 high-definition wall projectors with BluRay/DVD players and VGA, HDMI, RCA & Component inputs
- 3 digital tickers to display text, announcements, poetry or pixelated graphics
- 4 wireless microphones
- Cable television
- A LifeSize, moveable videoconferencing screen
- A hardwood floor designed for movement-based activities
Events in Space 2435 should utilize some combination of the features listed above. To view examples of previous events that have taken place in Space 2435, please visit our Past Events page. Users are welcome to contact the North Quad Programming Coordinator to discuss options.
Space 2435 is available for use free of charge by the University of Michigan community. Events that are collaborative between North Quad and other U-M units, and/or focus on technology or international content are prioritized. Prior to the beginning of each semester, advance reservations are only available to North Quad faculty, staff and students. Reservation requests must be made at least five business days before the proposed event. If not previously reserved, Space 2435 is available to all for use on a casual drop-in basis. Space 2435 is a shared space intended for community building. When proposing an event, please keep this intention in mind.

Rooms 2435 A, B & C:

There are three rooms located in the back of Space 2435 that are available for use by North Quad students, faculty and staff. Each room is equipped with a whiteboard, a whiteboard table with built-in connection cables and an LCD monitor.
These rooms cannot be reserved in advance, unless they are a part of an event taking place in the main Space 2435 area. Otherwise, Rooms 2435 A, B & C are available for use on a first-come, first-served basis. The rooms can be used for up to three hours in length, and then left for other users. Room users are expected to throw all trash away and erase the whiteboards upon completion of use.
Media Gateway:
The two-level Media Gateway supports collaboration and small gatherings in an informal, lounge-style setting. The open areas may be reserved in advance or used on a drop-in basis. There are 5 digital screens located on the second floor of the Media Gateway, and 2 on the first. These monitors are intended for displaying artwork, video, projects, images, blog feeds, live streams, interactive projects and other similar content. Building users are welcome to submit content for approval to the North Quad Programming Coordinator.
Content for our digital signage should be landscape orientation, sized between 1280×720 and 1920×1080 (16:9 aspect ratio) with a suggested minimum 24 Font Point. Files can be saved as either JPEG or PDF. For additional guidelines to optimize for readability, check out our Blog post, “Screens @ North Quad“! To send us content, please contact us to submit your request.
