Description: Taring Padi is an artist collective in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. They are most known for their political woodblock prints and focus on creating art for the people. “Through art, they began building an understanding amongst the people to fight against injustice, helping to forge a community aware of environmental, social, political, and cultural issues; inviting the community to be active and courageous in voicing their real life experiences and their opinions on the performance of government.” (Sinaga)
The Taring Padi Exhibition was a 3 week installation and event series that included an exhibit of political prints, a T-shirt print-making workshop, screenings of the Indonesian film trilogy by Leonard Retel Helmrich, a Gamelon music workshop and demonstration, a traditional Indonesian dance workshop, and discussion with visiting Taring Padi artists Sudandyo Aprilianto and Gina Sergina.
